My vision

What's good fellow Vagabonds? My whole world turned upside down 7 weeks ago when my vision started deteriorating. From one moment to the next I became visually impaired and can now no longer do IT work for instance. I set up a GoFundMe to help bridge the gap between now and term-time in order to continue my studies at SOAS. You see, all these events strengthened my resolve. I'm pursuing a path that will enable me to work regardless of my eye problems. I will remain independent and most importantly i would enjoy the work. What is this path? The path of becoming an Ethnomusicologist specializing in the music genres that I love: this includes but is not limited to Hip-Hop, Jazz and Korean traditional drum music. Review: Genelec 8010A

Review: Genelec 8010A mini monitors What's good Vagabonds? Today I'll review the miniature 8010A monitors by the well-known and respected Finnish company Genelec. I have the dark grey finish, but they're also available in white. Because I've had them for quite some time I've been able to compare them extensively and how transferable mixes are in the studio. When you unpack them the experience is really like those Russian matryoshka dolls. They are tiny! Setting up and angling is easy with the attached rubber feet. The speakers themselves have rounded edges which Genelec calls the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure and it feels like an odd mix of aluminium and plastic which is cool to the touch. Around the back are a couple of DIP switches for bass rolloff, bass, a dedicated 'desktop' setting and treble tilt and ISS,  a figure-of-8 power socket, a flared reflex port and a balanced XLR input. Let's talk Privacy and Net Neutrality for a minute, fellow Vagabonds. If, like me, you like tech, the internet and related culture, you will find these topics over and over again. We have long lost our digital privacy; many of us just didn't know it yet or were / are in denial. Remember the proposal to implant chips underneath our skin? That was a bit too much, right? So instead they made chipping our pets mandatory. Voila! The government can still trace your steps by doing the math. Fast forward to today. Tracking cookies are nothing new but with the Republicans in control we are going to see a number of things: the rollback of the FCC rules implemented during the Obama administration which leaves our browsing behavior data up for sale to the highest bidder and the demise of Net Neutrality because cable companies / ISPs will favor their own acquired companies over their competitors, including the small innovative companies that the Googles, Facebooks,...
